I recently finished reading a fascinating book about finding deeper freedom. The book is called: Unbound: A Practical Guide to Deliverance from Evil Spirits. It is not a book I would have normally read, but I was looking to stretch myself and read something that would force me out of my intellectual comfort zones. I expected it to be about the more esoteric aspects of the Christian life that few of us will ever encounter. I expected tales of exorcisms and dramatic battles with evil spirits.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that was not the focus of the book at all. Instead, Unbound focuses on the basics of the Christian life. While it recognizes the reality of evil spirits, the focus is on helping people to grow in freedom and love as disciples of Jesus. Drama is downplayed and growth in discipleship is emphasized.
The book unpacks “five keys” to deeper freedom in Christ. These keys are principles of prayer that help us to deepen our conversion to Christ. The keys are:
- repent and believe
- forgive in the name of Jesus
- renounce in the name of Jesus
- take authority in the name of Jesus
- and receive the Father’s blessing.
These simple keys can deepen anyone’s prayer life and help us to grow as disciples of Jesus. The book fleshes out these principles using concrete examples and easy to understand language. If you are looking for a good, practical guide that will help you to grow as a disciple of Jesus, consider reading, Unbound. We have a copy in the parish library.
